I think I might have to sleep in the basement tonight. When I go outside the din of a million fans and window air conditioners drones across the land. Seattle is hot and no kidding, Seattle is suffering tonight.

Yeah man. I guess I won't find any respite on the throne.

And they're not in direct sunlight. This is painful.

Well I'll be damned. Found it in the crosswalk.

The guy up front said they started lining up this morning, said a truck of various air conditioners just pulled up. He said there was no way there were enough air conditioners on the truck for even a third of the people in line. The guy said they've been telling people this all day but nobody is leaving the line and they keep lining up.
As I walked out there was a woman in the lawn and garden area checking out:
Apparently she was the first in line this morning. She set the alarm off when she tried to leave because the air conditioners she purchased hadn't even been entered into the system yet.
Yeah man, it's pandemonium out here in Seattle. A little heat goes a long way.

Let's see. They gave me a small shot in my hand then put in the iv thing. Then I went in and they gave me a pain killer, a muscle relaxant, and verced. Then in my back I got a local, then some kind of dye, then I'm not sure how many shots because by that point I was higher than high and couldn't lift my head.
Then they rolled me onto a gurney and down the hall. They swung a table over the gurney and asked what I'd like to drink and I went for the cranberry juice. Then they plunked a mammoth basket of Oreos, fig newtons, and various other cookies and snacks on the table and told me to have at it. I hadn't eaten since last night and it was about 2pm at that point.
We came home and I crashed while la took Nate to karate and dropped
Molly off at her friends place. I turned on buck rodgers, the Gary Coleman episode, and immediately fell asleep.
We just had dinner and. Gosh. I feel like I'd been hit with a horse tranquilizer earlier today. Gosh.

For normal civilian folks and even for some meteorology buffs like myself, dew point is tough to grasp. The easy explanation comes from wikipedia:
The dew point is the temperature to which a given parcel of air must be cooled, at constant barometric pressure, for water vapor to condense into water. The condensed water is called dew. The dew point is a saturation point.
I like that "parcel of air" term. It makes me think of a box wrapped in brown paper and tied off with string sitting on my doorstep. Anyhow, the dew point is useful in all kinds of situations, from piloting aircraft to determining cloud height and potential for severe weather. The important thing in my case is determining my level of comfort. Here's a handy chart borrowed from wikipedia:

Now I'm sure everyone has heard the term, "well, it's a dry heat," usually mentioned when someone talks about how hot it gets in the American desert Southwest. As you can see from the chart, when the dew point is between 50°F and 59°F and it is 90°F outside, humidity isn't a factor in your discomfort. Go stand in the shade and you'll feel fine.
Right now here the dew point is 63°F and the air temperature is 83°F with 52% humidity. It isn't horrendous when I'm sitting outside but I can tell you it is hell here in the house even with all the windows open and fans running. There's no breeze and the dew point is up there and I feel, in a word, gross.
