Best gas mileage ever.

Yes, this is pretty much the best gas mileage I've ever gotten in the beetle. I believe I was at 28.6mpg with no highway driving. I found a website (can't find the link) of these electric/hybrid car fanatics and all their nutty techniques for squeezing out maximum mpg from their rides. My Beetle is manual shift so I decided to try out their "Pulse and Glide" technique. Basically if the speed limit is 35mph, gradually accelerate to 5mph over, then glide down to 5mph under. If I recall correctly with my former driving method I was getting around 19mpg in city driving conditions. 28.6mpg was a mammoth improvement for me so I suppose I'll stick with it, especially with gas prices going up for the summer driving months.

There it is, in all it's glorious glorious glory. All white and glowing and glorious and within easy reach. I could have mounted it in the cup to the left but then my right knee would be bumping it all the time. I usually keep it set to my top rated playlist on shuffle so there's not much need to fiddle.

One thing I noticed is that with this config I must keep the volume on the ipod cranked. If I turn the ipod volume down and crank the car volume up I can hear interference in the background whenever anything electrical happens in the car. Which probably means my ground setup isn't the best it could be.
